Sylvia earns first win in two years; Alexander victorious

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia earned his first victory in two years with a first-round knockout of Jason Riley at the Adrenaline MMA show in Council Bluffs tonight.

Sylvia, who has won in October of 2007 against Brandon Vera, caught Riley with a left hook to the ear. The punch flattened Riley, who fell to 6-2 with the loss. Sylvia, who claimed before the fight that he would probably retire if he lost the fight, moves his record to 25-6.

UFC light heavyweight Houston Alexander was given the opportunity to fight outside the promotion, and he made the most of it. Alexander scored an impressive TKO victory over Sherman Pendergarst in the first round of the co-featured event on the Adrenaline card.

Alexander is expected to return to the octagon in early 2010.
