Words of Questionable Wisdom – The Con Cometh

Howdy y’all! Since it’s about that time of year I figured that I’d resurrect Words of Questionable Wisdom to share my excitement for the upcoming Baltimore Comic Con.

I’m a comic fan. I mean, I’m a guy who does a Q&A column about comics, so I guess that’s stating the obvious. But really, I do love the hobby and the Baltimore Comic Con is the one time when I get to meet creators and hear news when it breaks. It’s always a fun weekend.

For instance last year I got to meet Cliff Chiang and Kyle Baker. It was dope because I’ve been a huge fan of Cliff Chiang for years and I’ve got the utmost respect of Kyle Baker’s portfolio.

It’s also really cool to see all of the costumes. I’m not one of those fanboys who dresses up. The extent of my costuming is throwing on a Graphitti Designs t-shirt. But some of the costumes are really impressive. Some were impressive in how they assembled components to make the thing work, like the guy who was the Golden Age Sandman. Sure it wasn’t homemade, but it was impressive.

And then you have those people who create their costumes from scratch. For instance last year there was a mother and her two kids who were some sort of costumed and caped family of heroes. I couldn’t place them, but they looked very authentic. And the costumes were clearly something that you couldn’t buy in the store. It was awesome.

I totally like to give those fans their moment to shine. When I see someone in character I go out of my way to get pictures of them. As a fellow fan of the hobby, I really appreciate their passion and I want to give them the attention they deserve.

With the Con less than a month away, I’ve got to say that I’m really excited. And my excitement grows every day.

And since WOQW is being resurrected I’ll be keeping it alive until the Con. Future installment will cover;

Runs I’m Looking to Complete

Trades I’m Looking to Snag

Books I Might Try Out

See you next week.
