Writer David Goyer is in early talks with Columbia Pictures to create the story and supervise writers for a film which will most likely star Nicolas Cage, who starred in the first one in 2007.

Through a spokesperson, Goyer reported that he hadn’t officially signed on yet. However, it seems that plans are already under way to base the sequel on a script Goyer wrote years ago about the flame skulled anti-hero. Goyer’s other superhero work includes Batman Begins and the Blade franchise. The first Ghost Rider was written by director Mark Steven Johnson, of Daredevil previously.

I’m a huge Ghost Rider fan and was pretty disappointing in the first one. Hopefully Goyer can bring the appropriate amount of darkness to the story needed for a character like this and lose all the goofiness.
