Evans vs. Silva set for co-main event at UFC 108

News

Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva have verbally agreed to meet in the co-main event of UFC 108.

That’s according to MMA Junkie, who verified the story with sources close to both camps today. Evans was set to face Rashad Evans on December 12 at UFC 107, but Jackson was forced to pull out of the fight due to his casting as the iconic “B.A. Baracus” in the new A-Team movie. The fight was delayed indefinitely, but Jackson and Dana White had a falling out, leading to Jackson’s likely temporary retirement from fighting and the UFC.

Evans noted to MMA Fanhouse last week that he wanted to face Silva.

“Thiago Silva is a good fighter; I’d like to fight him and I think he wants to fight me,” Evans said. “When I saw him after he fought Keith Jardine, he kind of gave me a nasty look that I interpreted like he wanted to take me on, and I’d like that.”

UFC 108, which will be called The Ultimate 2009, is scheduled for Jan. 2 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and features a main event bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort for Silva’s middleweight championship.
