The project was originally conceived as a starring vehicle for Tom Cruise. The actor was trying to decide on a half dozen different projects and had to let some of them go. (Currently, Cruise is filming Witchita with Cameron Diaz.)
DreamWorks is hoping to get Motorcade into production by late summer or early fall 2010, and hopefully get Ryan Reynolds to play the disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the U.S. president is kidnapped in New York.
Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) was originally attached to direct but with the videogame-to-film adaption of Gears of War in development, his dance card is full.
His departure opens the door for Jon Cassar, who is leaving TV’s “24” to pursue a feature career.
Billy Ray (Breach, State of Play) continues to work on a script that was originated by Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell.
As for Reynolds his availability is up in the air at this point. He’ll next star in Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern for Warner Bros. next spring, and Marvel is currently planning a Deadpool movie, where he would reprise his character from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
