ECW Real-Time Coverage for 10/20/2009

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Welcome to the EC-Dub!

I feel like I’ve let you all down the last two weeks as I’ve missed covering ECW.  First, I had what was probably the swine flu.  I don’t recommend it.  Then, I had a business meeting to go to.  I’d recommend trying to get out of that as well.  But I’m back and ready to cover my favorite show on TV…  ECW!!  Apparently there will be a #1’s contender match between Zack Ryder (Woowoowoo!) and Yoshi Tatsu.  Should be a good match.

We start out with Abraham Washington welcoming us to ECW.  Apparently he is the guest host for tonight.  He says he’s better looking than Snoop Dogg.  Tony Atlas laughs.  Some joker walks in front of the camera and that joker is… Chris Jericho!! He intimidates Washington into telling him where the GM’s office is.  Washington says he would like to have Jericho as his guest on the Abraham Washington Show.  Jericho says “I’m sure you would” and walks off.

Your hosts are Josh Matthews and Matt Striker from the University of South Carolina.

Lauren Mayhew introduces the #1 contender’s match and here comes Yoshi Tatsu.  Zack Ryder comes down next.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Zack Ryder (#1 contender’s match)

The bell rings and they lock up.  Armdrag from Ryder.  Woowoowoo!  Schoolboy from Ryder gets two.  Tatsu takes down Ryder and rolls him up for two.  Kick to the midsection from Ryder.  Tatsu is down and Ryder kicks him in the head.  He throws Tatsu to the corner but Tatsu springboards over him and takes him down.  Dropkick.  Tatsu in control but Ryder picks him up and drapes him over the top rope.  Baseball slide hits Tatsu to the outside.  Ryder throws him back in the ring and covers for two.  Ryder in control with kicks and knee drops.  Yoshi in the corner and Ryder puts the boots to him.  Scoop slam from Ryder.  Tatsu tries to fight back but is put back on the mat.  Body scissors from Ryder.  Tatsu fights back and gets a small package for a two count.  Ryder shoves Tatsu into the corner but misses the run in.  Elbow from Tatsu.  Yoshi with multiple kicks.  Knees to the chest.  Tatsu off the top with an inziguri and a cover for two.  Tatsu goes to the top again but gets caught.  Ryder goes up for a superplex but Tatsu fights back and they both fall to the floor.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Ryder has Tatsu grounded in a modified abdominal stretch.  Tatsu fights back with more kicks from the floor.  Chops from Tatsu.  Ryder runs at him and gets back body dropped.  Catapult sends Ryder face first into the turnbuckles.  Rollup for two.  Dropkick from Tatsu.  Another rollup for two.  Elbow from Ryder but Tatsu sends him against the ropes.  Ryder stops himself and body drops Tatsu over the top rope.  Tatsu lands on the apron and hits the BIG KICK on Ryder.  Springboard splash and Tatsu gets the THREE COUNT!

Winner and new #1 contender:  Yoshi Tatsu

I wonder if that match will happen at Bragging Rights.  I doubt it.  Rosa Mendez is in the back with GM Tiffany.  Jericho interrupts and he says he is recruiting for his Smackdown team at Bragging Rights.  Tiffany says that he can’t cherry pick talent from ECW for Team Smackdown.  He can stay and watch or leave.  Jericho storms off.

Commercial break.

William Regal is in the back with his lackeys complaining about Tatsu getting a championship match.  Jericho comes back and they compliment each other on their suits.  Jericho tries to recruit Jackson and Kozlov but Tiffany comes back and tries to kick Jericho off the show.  Jericho says that he is one half of the unified tag team champs and can be wherever he wants to be.  Tiffany says he can stay and be a part of the action.  He will face ECW Champion Christian tonight!!! Totally awesome.

Meanwhile, Sheamus is headed to the ring.  J.T. Quinn is already in the ring.

Sheamus vs. J.T. Quinn

Sheamus manhandles Quinn for a while.  He pulls up Quinn twice when he could have had the three count.  Shelton Benjamin runs in and makes the save.  Benjamin takes it to him for a bit and Sheamus retreats to the back.

Winner by DQ:  Sheamus

We recap the Orton/Cena rivalry from RAW.  You know, in hindsight, it’s been a pretty grand rivalry.  There really is a lot of history between these two.  Triple H has distracted both of them at times, but they seem to keep meeting up.  They’ve put on some good matches and some bad ones, but they definitely get the job done on the mic.  I’m actually looking forward to their iron man match, and I don’t know that I’ve ever looked forward to a Cena match.  Or an Orton match for that matter.  What I really don’t get is why Cena lost clean to Trips last night on RAW.  What does it advance?  If Cena loses, why have his last night on RAW be a loss?  And if he wins, that sets up Triple H as #1 contender to his belt.  Who wants to see that again?  Especially when JeriShow vs. DX is so interesting, especially during Survivor Series season.  Doesn’t make sense to me.

Commercials.

We’re back and Paul and Katie Lea Burchill head to the ring.  Last week, Burchill pinned Hurricane for the win.  Burchill grabs the mic and Katie Lea is really hot.  Paul says he is a good family value person that is well spoken and intelligent.  Yet these yokels like Hurricane who wears underoos and rescues cats from trees.  His victory last week was a victory for sanity.  Ha!  He says Hurricane is a fraud and he needs to unmask as Gregory Helms and admit Burchill is the better man.  Hurricanes video package comes up and he heads to the ring head hung down.  Burchill says he should hang his head in shame.  He demands the mask and Hurricane hands it to him.  But that’s not Gregory Helms!  Burchill throws out the imposter and Hurricane music hits again.  He’s behind Burchill and takes a Singapore cane to him.  It’s the Hurri-cane apparently.  Anyway, Chris Jericho vs. Christian is next!

Commercial break.

Jericho is headed to the ring as we return from break. Striker calls him a guaranteed first ballot hall-of-famer and I couldn’t agree more. Christian follows down the ramp.

Christian vs. Chris Jericho (non-title match)

They stare each other down and the bell rings. Jericho works the crowd a bit. They lock up and they end up in the corner. Jericho bails and goes to the outside. Jericho back in and gets a headlock on Christian. Christian powers out. Christian to the ropes and he shoulder blocks Jericho. Jericho with a boot to the midsection. Jericho in control and he sends Christian head first into the turnbuckle. Sends him to the other corner and hits the clothesline. Jericho goes for the lionsault but Christian pushes him outside the ring! Christian hits the baseball slide as Jericho tries to come back in. We go to…

Commercial.

We’re back and Jericho runs into a dropkick. Christian gets a side headlock on Jericho. Jericho fights back but Christian ends up getting the missile dropkick from the second rope. Cover for two. Jericho goes to the apron and Christian goes after him only to get back body dropped all the way to the floor. Jericho goes to the outside and slams Christian into the steps and then drapes him over the security wall. He sends Christian back in the ring and kicks him while he’s down. Christian starts to fight back and slaps Jericho across the face. Jericho back in control, though, and he suplexes Christian. Cover for two. Christian retreats to the corner but Jericho follows him. He gets a side headlock on Christian but Christian reverses and hits the schoolboy for a two count. Both men up and Jericho hits a big clothesline. Cover for two. Jericho takes his time and then goes for the lionsault and misses! Christian is up and hits a double axe handle off the ropes. Missile dropkick! He goes for the Killswitch but Jericho reverses. Jericho misses the shoulder block and lands on the ropes. Christian stands on his back then goes to the outside to slap Jericho across the face. Christian goes for the missile dropkick but gets caught in the Walls of Jericho! Reversal into a small package for two. Jericho hits the Inziguri! Cover for two. Jericho goes for the bulldog but Christian reverses into a Reverse DDT. Cover for two. He goes for the Killswitch but Jericho gets out. Christian runs to the corner and hits the springboard sunset flip but Jericho rolls through and gets the Walls again! Christian makes it to the ropes to break the hold. Jericho runs at Christian but Christian moves and Jericho gets caught up in the ropes (ouch). Christian hits the Killswitch and this one is over!

Winner: Christian

What a great week to come back! We had two great matches (especially the main event) and even the squash match at least advanced a storyline. Well, see you next week kids!
