One to See: Official Trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone

News, Trailers

After being put on the back burner for months by Universal (fearing that the Academy wouldn’t nominate two Iraq War dramas this year – The Hurt Locker being the other one), the studio has finally debuted the official trailer for Green Zone on Yahoo.

Starring Matt Damon and directed by Paul Greengrass, the duo reunite after the successful Bourne Ultimatum. The cast also includes Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Issacs, and Amy Ryan. I remember reading about this project way back when, and knew it had promise just because of Matt Damon. The combination of the Jason Bourne franchise and his roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Informant!, the man can have his pick of whatever role he desires, pretty much.

As for Paul Greengrass, I fear that he hasn’t improved his directing etiquette in making a project that won’t give the audience a seizure because of all the shaky camera work.

But the trailer does look good, and it comes out on a Friday where its only competition is a trio of comedies starring the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder) and America Ferrera (Ugly Betty). Um, yeah, this will make some money come March 12, 2010.

What’s it about: A pair of CIA agents (Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear) on the trail of Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent following their mission. Inspired by Rajiv Chandrasekarn’s non-fiction work “The Imperial Life in the Emerald City.”

Green Zone is directed by Paul Greengrass and is written by Brian Helgeland, of L.A. Confidential, Mystic River and A Knight’s Tale previously.
