Fox has debuted what is likely to be the final trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar. Since I was underwhelmed with the teaser some months back, I was glad to finally see that there’s more going on here than just blue Na’vi aliens.
At three-and-a-half minutes, this is one of the longest theatrical trailers I’ve seen in some time. The fact that the trailer goes as far to mention all of Cameron’s films (except for Piranha 2 and The Abyss) it just heightens the anticipation. And catching it in front of a showing of Michael Jackson’s This Is It, Avatar might be the one to see this December.
Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine on the planet Pandora who, as an Avatar – a human mind in an alien body – finds himself in a desperate fight for his survival and that of the indigenous beings called Na’vi.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock and didn’t already know, Avatar is James Cameron’s first theatrical film in 10 years, after the Oscar-winning Titanic. But besides that ocean-liner disaster flick love story, he’s the man behind The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and True Lies. 20th Century Fox is bringing James Cameron’s Avatar to both IMAX and regular theaters in 3D around the globe on December 18, 2009.
