NBC Orders Pilots of Nola Rising and Ordinary People

News

NBC has added a drama Nola Rising, a private-eye show with a supernatural element — and a family comedy called Ordinary People to its list of possible projects for next season.

Nola Rising centers around a private detective in New Orleans who works cases with the help of an ex-convict. The catch, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is that the ex-con is “capable of being inhabited by ghosts” who help provide him with clues. Medium and Crossing Jordan veteran Diane Ademu-John is writing the pilot, former NBC exec Teri Weinberg is executive producing. Ademu-John and Alex Hertzberg will be co-exec producers.

Ordinary People is thankfully not an attempt to turn the Oscar-winning 1980 film into a sitcom. Instead it’s about a career-oriented African-American couple and their kids. The comedy will come from the father’s transition from a globe-trotting magazine reporter to a columnist who works from home. Kenya Barris (The Game, America’s Next Top Model) and Scott Stuber (Love Happens, The Wolfman) are exec producing.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
