White Collar Episode 1-4 Review

Shows, Top Story

This episode has really changed my view on Mozzie. Before now he has been just Neal’s sidekick, not having that much to do but pop in to give Neal some information. I like that he is slowly becoming more involved. Now that Peter has met him so many doors have been opened for his character to grow.

Peter sends Neal to get a record for him. Neal goes to do it but cannot figure out which one is the one he needs. Agent Cruz comes in and reveals that she wrote a thesis on Neal that got a 94. Neal thinks that she admires him until she says that it was Agent Burke she transferred to work with. She leaves Neal to find the record on his own.

Jones rushes to Burke’s office to warn him that his wife is there with another lady and they do not look happy. He also suggests that Burke may want to keep a different cell phone for his wife and girlfriend to avoid conflicts like this. Peter cheating on his wife that’s a laugh. He identifies the other women as his wife’s best-friend Dana.

Elizabeth says that this morning the FBI issued a an arrest warrant for Dana’s husband. Peter looks it up on the computer and sees that Dana’s husband is suspected of stealing artifacts from Iraq and his prints were all over the place. Neal comes in with his file and quickly tries to leave after seeing Elizabeth. Elizabeth stops him and tries to use him to make her defense. Neal tells Elizabeth that he should turn himself in. Elizabeth agrees and says that he will turn himself in to Peter.

Peter feels horrible about arresting John in front of both Dana and his wife but has to. John swears that a man named Aimes who works in the State’s Department asked him to bring back a few items from overseas. Peter agrees to look into it and hands him over to the FBI agents.

Neal thinks that John Mitchell is innocent because he showed genuine surprise when Peter told him his prints were all over the scene. Neal also points out that you cannot melt down gold without getting some splash marks on yourself, no matter how careful you are. That does not seem right to me but I’ll go along with it since I’m no goldsmith.

Peter pays Aimes a visit and tries to ask him a few questions. Aimes blows him off by telling him to set up a meeting. Peter walks towards Aimes but is stopped by a bodyguard. The bodyguard has some splash marks on his hand, Peter takes note of them and lets them go for now.

The FBI has gathered all the recovered stolen artifacts. Peter thinks that the prints on them are a little too clean. They are also all from the left hand with would be impossible. Peter still does not know how they got Mitchell’s prints to plant them on the artifacts.

Peter and Neal go out drinking to discuss the case. Peter says that Dana has been staying at their house for a few days and he doesn’t know how to deal with her crying. As Peter drinks away, Neal notices that the whole time he has been drinking he only used his right hand. John was drinking with whoever stole his prints.

Peter goes home and tries to ask Dana if John went out drinking with anyone recently. She bursts into tears again and Peter tries his best. Elizabeth sends Peter upstairs and goes back to comfort Dana. Dana reveals that John went out to drink with a journalist lady who wanted to do a story on him about the life of a returning vet. She was mad that John didn’t tell her about beforehand. John was only mad about his yankee cap that he left at the bar.

Peter tells Neal that the other women John was with is named Alicia Teagen, a reporter who was embedded with his unit. Peter wonders how Alicia and Aimes are connected in this. Neal says that press credentials would be a good way to get something past customs. Peter wants to go talk to her.

Peter tells Neal to wait while he gets them checked in. Neal chats up a young women while he waits. The guard asks Peter if he’d like to wait for Miss Teagen upstairs. Peter sees Neal is occupied and goes up without him. After the women leaves, Neal discovers that he’s been ditched. Peter calls him and asks him to observe how Alicia reacts when she finds out there is an FBI agent waiting for her. Neal watches her but wants to learn more. Now he needs to find a way to get upstairs.

Neal goes out and buys a bunch of coffees. With his hands occupied he tells Phil the guard to reach into his back pocket and get his card for him. Phil does not want to so he tells Neal not to worry about it and lets him go through.

Neal follows Miss Teagen and sees her slip something into a locked drawer before going in to talk to Burke. While she talks to Peter, Neal picks the lock and makes a few photocopies of the paper she was hiding. Peter distracts her long enough for Neal to replace the paper and walk away.

The paper that Alicia was hiding was a pawn shop ticket. Peter takes the copy away from Neal because it is evidence that was obtained illegally. Of course Neal made another copy and asks Mozzie to check it out.

Peter goes home but is quickly sent out again by Elizabeth. With nothing else to do he goes over to Neal’s place to work on the case some more. Neal, who is expecting Mozzie to stop by, is surprised to open his door to Peter. When Mozzie knocks on the door, Neal tries to hide him from Peter by calling him Mr. Haversham. Peter knows better and invites Mozzie in and tells him that he will go on calling him Mr. Haversham.

Mozzie shows them the coin that Alicia sold to the pawn shop. Peter knows that Alicia is guilty but he cannot do anything with the evidence. They have an idea knowing that Alicia cannot report them without implicating herself.

Neal gets an interview with Miss Teagen saying that he has a story about an Iraqi cover-up involving a soldier. They start filming and Neal lets her know that they know what she did by telling her a story and then taking out the coin. She freaks out and makes them turn off the cameras.

Wanting to avoid jail time, Alicia asks the FBI for immunity. I am led to wonder if the “immunity” barter is a shout-out to the actress’ former role on 24 where almost everyone asks for immunity for some reason. Anyways, Peter tells her that her deal will be better if she helps them convict Aimes. Peter tells her to tell Aimes that the FBI is poking around and that she has found a very rich and discreet buying for the gold.

They show Neal the car he is going to be using for the trade. He is not impressed by it so he goes out looking for another ride. With Mozzie’s help Neal cons a limo from a car cleaning company.

The FBI sees the limo arrive but are surprised to see Neal, Lauren, and Alicia emerge from it. Mozzie is covering as the limo driver. Aimes brings them inside to show them the merchandise. Alicia’s nervousness gives Neal and Agent Cruz away and the bodyguard pulls a gun on them. Aimes makes a run for it but Peter is not far behind. Aimes stops in front of the limo and starts shooting at Burke. Predictably but none the less hilariously, Mozzie hits Aimes with the limo sending him to the ground. Peter arrests Aimes and takes him away.
