Mystery, Lies, Sex, Death? All these are included in the eighth episode of season six of Desperate Housewives. Here is the review. Sorry for being late.

Spoiler-free zone:

In this episode the countdown for sweeps has began, and it seems that they aren’t saving all the intense scenes just for the sweeps episode. As usual, expect comedic storylines and expect other storylines to move forward (Bree’s and Lynette’s mostly). Furthermore, in the episode there is a big cliff-hanger which might ring some bells.

Spoiler zone:

Another week and another great episode. The opening focused on a judge and how she likes to punish guilty people. Last week, we saw Susan being locked up in prison, but the judge decided to let her go. However, (after some convincing by Katherine) Susan was forced to do community service and clean trash from the street. After Katherine littered (while driving) just to give Susan a bit more work to do, one of the guys there, managed to get Katherine charged with community service too. Finally, after much frustration from the trash collecting, Katherine has a breakdown and starts crying, admitting defeat from Susan. During her small break down it is revealed to Susan, that Katherine and Mike have had sex, five times in a day, when they were together. When Katherine realises from Susan’s expression that this wasn’t the case for them, she dusted herself off and said to herself that maybe she didn’t lose this fight. Dana Delany acts this whole scene brilliantly as always. In the rest of the episode we see poor Susan trying to force Mike to do it five times as well. After 3 times though, Mike just wanted to cuddle resulting to a very pissed off Susan. When he explains to her that a relationship with sex only can be a shallow one, Susan and Mike kiss and make up. This storyline provided most of the comedy for the episode and with some very well acted one-liners like Susan’s “I’m a lousy lay”.

Furthermore, it was interesting how Lynette’s and Gaby’s storylines were interwoven in this episode. Lynette thought she finally found someone (that someone’s name was Terrance) to fill her spot while she would be away on maternity leave (note that she hasn’t told Carlos about her pregnancy yet). However, Carlos sends Terrance to Miami so Gaby can send Juanita to the Catholic school that the Terrance kid was attending. After Lynette and Tom convinced Terrance to stay in Fairview, Gaby went to Lynette’s house to ask Lynette to convince Terrance to go to Miami. Poor Lynette couldn’t say anything and in her frustration of trying to think of something to say, Gaby hugged her. Since Lynette was wearing a coat to hide her belly, Gaby didn’t notice Lynette’s belly until they hugged, when the stupid little twins kicked her. When Gaby realised what was going on, she got pissed and told Carlos everything. After that, Carlos went to Lynette’s office and told her that he is offering her a promotion to go to Miami and if she doesn’t accept, she will have to quit. I know Carlos was right to be mad, but still he reminded me of the season one, arrogant Carlos. Maybe he reminded me of that because the story was about Lynette and her side (although, I think it’s usually the guys that are shown to be more reasonable on the show).

In Bree’s story, things got heated up when Orson told Angie that he thinks Bree is having an affair since she always has a work emergency that doesn’t result to anything. What disturbed me about that scene was that the writers implied that Orson might kill himself. After describing an opera song he was listening to, which was called “Madame Butterfly” and was about a woman who killed herself when her lover left her, he told Angie that he might do something stupid if he lost Bree. Angie, however, calmed Orson down and told him that there is no way Bree would cheat since she thought classy women do not cheat (she was wrong obviously). Later on, when Orson told Bree he was going to be out of town, Karl paid Bree a visit. Angie saw them through the window getting busy, and when she saw Orson coming home (obviously he was setting Bree up) Angie calls Bree to warn her. When Orson sees that nothing is going on, Angie gives Karl his clothes (who was hiding in the balcony) and tells Bree that she did this for Orson and that she should better make a choice between the two. At that point we see that Bree is in a dilemma between choosing someone who brings out something new in her, and someone she shares the same level of understanding with.

Finally, the mystery really progressed in this episode. So much that I think I have actually solved it. The whole mystery storyline in this episode focuses on a Fairview coffee shop. In that coffee shop, Angie confronts Julie about Nick, and Nick is slightly flirting with the waitress there. In the end of the episode, the waitress becomes the second strangled victim this season. My theory is (and I give you time to stop reading if you don’t want to know what I think) that Eddie (Nick’s friend that was shown in the 3rd episode and is also seen briefly, working at the coffee shop) is the strangler. The waitress, before she closed the shop, said to the strangler “Oh, did you forget something?”, which means it was someone from the coffee shop (a person working there, or a visitor). The other two suspects are Angie, who saw her husband flirting with the waitress, or Nick, who was talking to someone “mysterious” on the phone, while being in the coffee shop late at night (and the waitress heard him). However Nick and Angie are too obvious (unless they are purposely too obvious so we are tricked into thinking it’s not them). Anyway, whoever it is, this mystery certainly plays with our head.

To sum up, great, GREAT episode that has me begging for more. Comedy was present, Drama was present and no storyline was entirely paused.
