Staff Picks for Fight to Watch

Corey’s Pick: Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez
Dec 5 on HBO

December is a pretty vapid month for the sport. There are some big names fighting, just not in mouth-watering fights. The one I’m most interested in is Paul Williams taking on Sergio Martinez in a middleweight clash on December 5. The fight would bear more significance if it was happening at junior middleweight, where Martinez holds a title (and probably a better chance), but Williams has to take any fight he can get at this point, with Kelly Pavlik blatantly ducking him.

Trent’s Pick: Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Malignaggi
Dec 12 on HBO

After the way Malignaggi went off after the first fight between these two, I’m very intrigued in how the second one will play out. And I had little to no interest in their first fight. What a difference a heartfelt rant makes. Hopefully Diaz can make a better fight of it this time around. Still, the hype going into this fight will be the best of any other fight this month. And with Paulie Malignaggi involved, you can bet that he’ll have something to say before and after the fight.
