WWE 2009 PPV Buyrate Numbers Decline

News

Here is a rundown of the WWE PPV buyrate information for 2009 thus far:

– Royal Rumble did 450,000 buys (down 83,000 from 2008 numbers)
– No Way Out did 272,000 (down 57,000)
– WrestleMania 25 did 960,000 (down 98,000)
– Backlash did 182,000 (down 70,000)
– Judgment Day did 228,000 (down 24,000)
– Extreme Rules did 213,000 buys (up 19,000 from 2008 numbers)
– The Bash did 178,000 (down 18,000)
– Night of Champions did 267,000 (down 6,000)
– SummerSlam did 369,000 (down 108,000)
– Breaking Point did 169,000 (down 42,000)

The Breaking Point number indicates a North American buyrate of approximately 75,000 buys, which is only slightly above the best buyrates TNA has managed in the past. It is the second-lowest buyrate in WWE history, behind ECW December to Dismember in 2006, which managed just 96,000 worldwide buys.

In total, WWE is down 601,000 buys on 2008, which is the equivalent of putting the Royal Rumble and Breaking Point on TV for free.

Current tracking numbers indicate that Hell in the Cell did in the low 200,000 range, slightly better than Breaking Point. Bragging Rights appears to have done a little better, around 215,000. Survivor Series is expected to come in under 300,000, which would make it the least-purchased Survivor Series of all time.
