Smackdown recap for 12/04/09

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

CM Punk vs. R-Truth: As Punk enters with his new buddy Luke Gallows we get replays of his recent dealings with both Matt Hardy and R-Truth. Punk takes early advantage of Truth take time to dance to pound on him in the corner. But Truth rebounds quickly nailing Punk with a kick after two acrobatic dodges. R-Truth goes for a scissors kick but Punk sees it coming and scores with an elbow to halt the move. Truth rolls outside to recover but Punk follows him out and sends him into the ringpost and the show into a commercial.

As we return to action Punk nails a double arm suplex as matt Striker gives us his definition of “Straight Edge” for the 100th time. Punk continues to work the arm injured when Truth smacked the ringpost. Punk pauses a suplex attempt to say that he can save everybody and that leaves Truth an opening he walks thru to begin a comeback. But he pauses himself and that allows Gallows to interfere. But the ref sees the attack and awards Truth the victory via DQ. After the match Punk and Gallows give Truth a brief beating and Gallows hits his new awkward finisher. Tag match next week between Truth/Hardy and Punk Gallows?

Kane vs. Mike Knox: I guess Kane has made a full face turn now and not just a detour watching his brother’s back. Kane scores early with a shoulder block and then a snapmare dropkick combo stopping to try a pin attempt after each. His advantage does not last long however as Knox is quickly back into the fight and hits his huge crossbody off the ropes to gain an advantage. Kane is able to make a comeback of his own with a series of clotheslines and also hits a side slam for a two count. Kane hits his clothesline from the top rope and signals for the chokeslam but Mike kicks his way out of it. Knox goes for a bicycle kick but Kane catches it and is able to hit the chokeslam and that is enough for the three count.

Meanwhile in the Jeri-Show locker room, Jericho takes some time out of his busy schedule to explain what a TLC match really means to Josh Matthews. Show doesn’t say anything but mocks punching the camera out when Chris is finished talking.

Mickie James vs. Natalya vs. Beth Phoenix: This match is to determine the #1 contender for the Women’s Championship. Layla and Michelle McCool are sitting at ringside wearing “Piggie James” t-shirts. Beth knocks down both ladies to start and then she and Natalya take turns attacking Mickie black ninja style. Phoenix tosses James outside of the ring and then elbows off the apron and the two blonds face off. After a bit of power standoff, Mickie reenters the ring only to get tossed right back out by Beth. She and Natalya then floor each other with a double clothesline spot and we get some Law & Order commercials.

When we return to action, Beth is down in a corner and Natalya has Mickie in a seated surfboard stretch. Beth returns to the action by breaking the hold with some punches and Mickie scores on a neckbreaker on Nat. After all three ladies trade some pin attempts; Neidhart hits her spinning clothesline on Mickie and then starts to lock in the Sharpshooter. Phoenix interrupts the attempt and nails her with the Glam Slam but as she goes for the pin, Mickie drop kicks her out of the ring and covers Natalya for the win. After the match Mickie cuts a promo on McCool then attacks her which leads to a two on one beatdown before Maria makes her return to Smackdown to even the odds ad help chase the heels away.

We take a peek in Teddy’s office where he and Batista are having a friendly disagreement about who deserves certain things. The gist of the convo is that Batista must face Rey Mysterio next week in a street fight and that our main event for the show will be Undertaker cutting a promo. We also take a look in John Morrison’s locker room where he catches Matt Hardy playing his copy of Smackdown vs Raw 2010 and jokes about Drew McIntyre ensue.

Drew McIntyre vs. John Morrison: This is a non-title match that Morrison sort of asked Teddy Long for last week. Drew tries to start the match with a promo but John ends that with a punch to the face. Morrison takes the early advantage nailing his standing shooting star press for a quick count. But that advantage is not long lasting as McIntyre brawls his way back into the contest. Morrison does the matrix counter to a big boot attempt by McIntyre and then nails a Pele kick for a two count. John tries to set-up a springboard maneuver but Drew ends those thoughts and this leads to both men take a tumble outside the ring. McIntyre seems to ponder taking the win by countout but instead tosses Morrison back into the ring. Once back in, Drew grounds John with a variety of strikes and holds and maintains control over the match as the show takes a commercial break.

McIntyre levels Morrison with a clothesline as we return to action but it is not enough for a pinfall. John fights back with punches and kick but is slowed by the damage taken during the match. Morrison goes for another springboard attack but McIntyre is ready for it and slams him down. McIntyre hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a long two count then goes for his finisher but John fights out of it and nails him with another kick. Morrison looks for Starship Pain, but McIntyre rolls out of the way and hits John with a hotshot on the ropes. As they both rise, Morrison kicks him off the apron and Drew positions himself almost under the ring. John tires to pull him out but he ends up being slammed into the now exposed steel undercarriage of the ring. McIntyre drags the dazed Morrison back into the ring and hits his finisher for the pinfall victory.

Vickie Guerrero comes down to the ring as we get a replay of her break-up with Eric Escobar from last week’s episode. After excusing herself, she demands he come to the ring to apologize to her and beg her forgiveness to save his job. He does come out but he insults her instead of doing as she commands. Instead of firing him as promised, she books him in a handicapped match against the Hart Dynasty.

The Hart Dynasty vs. Eric Escobar: Are they really going to try to turn this guy face? He starts against Kidd and gets the better of him until Tyson escapes from a back suplex attempt. After a low dropkick, Kidd tags in Smith who levels EE with a big boot. Kidd comes back in and Eric nails him with a skyhigh spinebuster for a two count but Smith returns to retake control for his team. The HD combine for a modified version of the Hart Attack and that is enough to get the pin. Post match, Smith holds Escobar for Vickie to slap and then ads a kick to the ribs for good measure.

In the back Josh gets a few comments from Luke Gallows who, in a very touching moment, praises his friend and role model CM Punk. I wish I had a friend like him. After a commercial break we get the full rundown for the card (so far) for the upcoming TLC pay-per-view and it seems like it should be worth watching.

Jeri-Show vs. Cryme Tyme: This match is of course non-title. Jericho and JTG start things off and JTG takes the early advantage hitting a second rope leg lariat and getting a couple of two counts. But he celebrates into the wrong corner and gets distracted by Show and is then chop blocked by Jericho. Jericho is able to dominate for a bit but JTG is able to hit a variation of the Shout Out and both tag in their partners. Big Show then nails Shad with one punch and knocks him out for the win. I guess somebody doesn’t like Shad’s new haircut.

After a video of Batista’s actions last week, the Undertaker starts his grand entrance for his main event promo. But Batista interrupts and attacks him with a chair before he can even make it to the ring. Dave beats Taker down outside the ring before giving him a spinebuster on the chair in the ring and posing with the belt. Batista yells and poses with the title for awhile then levels the champion with his title and the show ends with a promo for Rey versus Dave next week.
