Vazquez and Marquez Agree to Epic Fourth Bout

News

Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez will renew their intensely competitive rivalry as both men have agreed to a fourth fight. The fight will take place on May 22 and will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. It will be a 12-round fight at the 126-pound featherweight limit. The previous three fights between the two were fought at the super bantamweight limit of 122 pounds. Showtime will televise the bout.

Their first three fights are already considered to be one of the most exciting trilogies of all time. Rafael Marquez won the first bout in 2007 after Israel Vazquez elected not to continue after the 7th round due to a broken nose. Vazquez won the rematch later that year by 6th round TKO. Vazquez won the third fight in 2008 by split decision.

This is great news for fight fans. It’s extremely rare for a trilogy to be expanded into a fourth fight. The buzz for this fight has been growing ever since the conclusion of their third fight, when both men posed for pictures flashing four fingers.
