Up until this year’s San Diego Comic Con I had never heard of Kick-Ass. Never knew it was a comic, nor knew an adaptation was in production. Lionsgate picked up the distribution rights back in August, and there’s already been a theatrical teaser. It’s okay, but the real seller for the R-rated superhero movie are the short minute-and-a-half teasers that have started to circulate on the Net.
Judging by this teaser, director Matthew Vaughn does not worry about the MPAA or trying to appease a studio that wants a PG-13 action movie. I had visions of Clive Owen’s Shoot ’em Up watching one sequence, and another that will make you want to go “Yeesh!” Do yourself a favor and watch it.
Chloe Moretz, who played Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s little sister in (500) Days of Summer and is also appearing in next year’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid, plays Hit-Girl in Matthew Vaughn’s (Layer Cake, Stardust) adaptation of Mark Millar’s (Wanted) comic. Funded entirely by Vaughn and his investors, Kick-Ass looks to kick ass when it comes out in theaters on April 16, 2010.
