Movie Hardball – End of the year wrap-up

Site News, Top Story

With the end of the year upon us, I’ve decided to commandeer John’s quarterly column to announce our changes for the new decade beginning January 1, 2010. And what better way then pictures of IP’s resident sex symbol, Danny Cox, to highlight them all?

1. What’s with the buckets? Are they staying?

When we were separated into the DVD Lounge and the Popcorn Junkies, it made sense to have our own little graphic for ratings. But with the combination back into InsidePulse Movies, it’s time to leave that behind with the 50 point club, et al.

We’re going to be switching to the four star system, with zero being something that would wind up in Rob Saucedo’s column and four stars being a masterpiece. Everything else falls in between.

We’re also going to be switching our format around, as well, to freshen the place up a bit.

2. Anything I can read right now while I wait for this new ranking system.

Our end of the year, Best of 2009 lists are going to be up starting today so feel free to check in and see what the InsidePulse movie staff thought of the last year in film.

3. Are you guys going to be doing anything special for the end of the decade?

January is going to be all about the first decade of the 2000s.

January 4th – We will be looking at individual genres, narrowing down hundreds of films into the ten best genre films.

January 11th – The worst of the decade, all the things we hated, will be espoused upon.

January 18th – The Academy Awards are the most prestigious of honors, and we’ll be counting down the 10 best films to have won or be nominated for an Oscar.

January 25th – The last week of January will be our last, and perhaps most interesting look at the 2000s as each member of the staff posits their Top Ten of the 2000s.

4. What’s up with the new staff?

Brendan Campbell and Rob Saucedo joined our staff earlier in the month, as we had been looking to bring on some fresh blood. We get plenty of people wanting to write for us giving us submissions on a regular basis, as the perks make up for the lack of pay. You’d be amazed at the groupies I get for MMC, for sure.

With the need for some new blood, we decided to inject two guys we knew. Rob is an old friend of a staff member, and Campbell was here at the beginning, so those of us in charge opted to bring them on board to add them in. Rob’s columns, Confessions of a Spec-tater and Bad Movies Done Right, are definitely worth checking out. You’ve already seen Brendan’s DVD and film reviews, bringing the movie fan’s perspective about film to Inside Pulse.

Obviously give them a read as they both bring fresh perspectives to IP Movies.

5. Any other new changes that are coming?

Most definitely. We’re always looking for ways to improve the way we do things, from review styles to news. Coming in 2010 are going to be some changes in the way we report movie news, etc. Stay tuned, we think you’ll like it

6. Since you guys have hired two people, are you looking for anyone else?

We’re always looking to bring aboard people with new perspectives and takes on film. If you’re interested in applying for a position on the staff, send me an email at Kubryk@InsidePulse.com for further instructions.

Seventh Inning Stretch. You want to insult Avatar again?

Nahh….I’m still referencing it as Dances with Thunder-Smurfs in the Super Secret Staff Forum. That’s still more then enough for now.

8. Any other comments or anything else needed to be said?

Not really….2009 has been an interesting year, to say the least, and we’re looking for a bigger and better 2010.

9. You can’t end on that.

Ok….later this afternoon the Best of 2009 lists from individual members of the staff are being unleashed. Feel free to check them out, then have a safe & happy NYE.
