Who is Matt Shapiro? He’s probably best known for the video retrospectives he makes recapping a year in film. He’s been posting “Year in Review” videos on YouTube (under the handle oyguvaltshappy) since 2006. Now he’s back with his video for last year – 2009: The Cinescape. Prior to Christmas we ran the mash-up video by Kees Van Dijkhuizen, but for those familiar with Shapiro’s retrospectives, a year in cinema isn’t officially over until he posts his video. His latest is set to an appropriately titled song by Radiohead, “Exit Music (For a Film).”
A prelude from Matt: “So here we are, at the end of a momentous decade, and the personal significance this video holds with me – I made the first one around the time high school started, and I made this one as its approaching an end – makes me especially proud to present to you, for the fourth (but certainly not final) time, 2009: The Cinescape.”
