ROH News: Tag Title Match Added to NYC, TV Title Brackets Released

The following news items were posted on Ring of Honor’s website:

The Briscoes (c) vs. Dark City Fight Club, for the ROH World Tag Team Titles, has been added to the “8th Anniversary Show” on February 13th in New York City. Check out the press release here.

My Thoughts: I’m not too crazy about the Dark City Fight Club and can’t really see them going over in two weeks, but considering ROH needs to elevate some new teams to replace the ones it’s lost or broken up, this is as good a place to start as any. Plus, both teams have a stiff, hard-hitting style, so this could be good.

The top four seeds have been announced for the first ever ROH Television Title Tournament, to take place at the ROH on HDNet tapings in Philadelphia on February 5th and 6th. With the top 4 now announced, the matchups are as follows:

#1 Kevin Steen vs. #8 Rhett Titus
#3 Colt Cabana vs. #6 Eddie Edwards
#4 Davey Richards vs. #5 Delirious
#2 Kenny King vs. #7 El Generico

Semifinal #1: Steen/Titus Winner vs. Cabana/Edwards Winner
Semifinal #2: Richards/Delirious Winner vs. King/Generico Winner

Final: Semifinal #1 Winner vs. Semifinal #2 Winner

My thoughts: As I’ve said before, I’m all for this tournament. We can argue whether a couple of these guys (Cabana and Richards come to mind) are above a secondary belt, as both men have been in the ROH World Title picture in the past, but the first round should produce at least two good matchups (King vs. Generico had a pretty good match on this week’s HDNet show, and Richards vs. Delirious could be REALLY good). From there, they have a lot of interesting matchups they can go into. I look forward to seeing how this shakes out.
