Jay Lethal was involved with a storyline where he challenged and subsequently lost matches to older legends such as Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart and Tatanka.
The storyline appears to be dropped now with the regime change, but it did have an expected payoff. The idea was that Lethal, obsessed with the past and his Macho Man gimmick, would realize he wasn’t focused on his own career.
Lethal would then drop the Black Machismo gimmick and take on a more serious character.
It remains to be seen whether Lethal will drop the gimmick in other ways, although Hulk Hogan has expressed the desire to see him in a program with the original Macho Man Randy Savage.
