VIDEO: The Losers Trailer

News, Trailers

Face it, comic-book adaptations have replaced published novels has Hollywood’s go-to source of popcorn entertainment. I’m surprised it took them this long to figure out that they didn’t always have to adapt popular superheroes to the big screen. From DC Comics’ Vertigo, The Losers was a 32-issue series that ran from August ’03 to March ’06. The story surrounds a shadow group that is betrayed by its handler, Max, and left for dead. (And what does Last Action Hero Jack Slater always say at a time like this? That’s right, “Big mistake.”) Now the Losers want revenge, so they regroup and wage operations against the Central Intelligence Agency, uncovering some that are spearheaded by Max, who is a puppet master within the Agency and U.S. government.

The trailer, which was attached to prints of Edge of Darkness over the weekend, looks like your generic action movie, like a cross between The A-Team and Ocean’s Eleven. But it does have an interesting cast. You got the “Comedian” Jeffrey Dean Morgan and “Human Torch” Chris Evans teaming up with The Wire‘s “Stringer” Bell (Idris Elba), Columbus Short, and the best new action heroine in movies today, Zoe Saldana. And when you see her straddling Morgan in a chair while taking off her shirt, you got to wonder about the possibility of a restricted rating. Make it happen Joel Silver!

The casting aside, the biggest wild card is the direction of Sylvain White, whose last film was Stomp the Yard. It’s slated to come out on April 9th, wedged between Clash of the Titans (which got pushed back to April 2nd from March 26th) and Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass (April 16th). On the bright side, it comes out two months before Fox’s The A-Team so as to not confuse the moviegoers.
