NBC is Mad About Paul Resier

News

While no official announcement has been made, Nikki Finke with Deadline Hollywood has the inside scoop that NBC has picked up a Warner Bros. produced pilot that was written by and stars Paul Reiser. The funnyman, who got his start in Barry Levinson’s Diner back in 1983, has been away from the spotlight after his NBC sitcom Mad About You went off the air in 1999. More recently, he appeared as himself in the Judd Apatow comedy Funny People.

The pilot that has been picked up, Paul Reiser will also executive produce. It is a single-camera filmed series that is said to be “big.”

Catching Mad About You in passing, it’ll be interesting to see if Reiser can rise to prominence in TV land once again. Maybe he can put a call in to Helen Hunt and get the band back together, because her career has been on autopilot ever since she won the Oscar for As Good As It Gets. If this pilot does take off and becomes a hit, maybe Sony Pictures can finish releasing the rest of Mad About You on DVD.
