ROH News: Television Title Tournament Conclusion, Briscoes vs. Kings of Wrestling, Human Tornado Retirement, and more

News

The following news items were posted on the February 9th edition of the ROH Newswire:

ROH was unable to conclude its Television Title Tournament, as its February 6th show was cancelled due to inclement weather in Philadelphia. As a result, ROH will be finishing the tournament and crowning its first ever Television Champion at the March 5th ROH on HDNet tapings. The remaining participants in the tournament are Kevin Steen, Eddie Edwards, Kenny King, and Davey Richards. Tickets for the March 5th and 6th set of ROH on HDNet tapings can still be purchased on ROH’s website. Those who purchased tickets to the February 6th show can e-mail rohtickets@aol.com for refund or exchange information.

Wrestlers confirmed for the Mach 5th and 6th tapings, other than the Television Title Tournament finalists (NOTE: Davey Richards is only confirmed for March 5th), include the following: Austin Aries, The Briscoes, Colt Cabana, Roderick Strong, Shawn Daivari, and The House of Truth (Josh Raymond and Christian Able, with Truth Martini).

A tag team match between the Briscoes and the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) has been signed for “The Big Bang!” on April 3rd in Charlotte. ROH has not declared whether or not this match will be for the ROH Tag Team Titles. Tickets go on sale February 15th.

ROH has pulled The Human Tornado from all upcoming events, due to his retirement. ROH official Adam Pearce had the following words to say about The Human Tornado:

“I’ve known Tornado for many years, and have watched him grow from a referee into one of the most entertaining characters in all of wrestling. Having wrestled him numerous times on the West Coast, and I can say that his style and charisma are unrivalled, and he was really only scratching the surface of his immense talent. As a friend and colleague, I wish him all the best and we will miss him in Ring of Honor.”

The Human Tornado’s retirement has left Steve Corino without an opponent for the “8th Anniversary Show”, this Saturday in New York City. According to the Wire, “ROH officials are currently reviewing this Saturday’s card and will have a ruling on [whether Corino will still have a match at the show, and if so, against whom] before the week is over.”

The most recent edition of the ROH Video Wire is now available. This Video Wire includes the first footage released from ROH’s January 29th Los Angeles debut, including Jerry Lynn’s return to ROH, Jushin Liger, Scotty 2 Hotty, and the Colt Cabana/Kevin Steen confrontation. Click here to watch.
