Sony Makes it Official: Next Spider-Man in 3D

News

When Spider-Man web-slings his way into theaters in July 2012, some will want to have a pair of 3D specs. The news comes just weeks after we reported that Marc Webb would be taking over a franchise that sees itself rebooting. By the time Webb’s film is released, five years would have passed between Spider-Man 3 and the still untitled reboot.

With regards to 3D, Sony Chairman Jeff Blake said, “Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.”

The announcement is just the latest tentpole picture to get the 3D treatment. Warner Bros.’s Clash of the Titans which was originally going to be just a 2D presentation was pushed back a week so that the studio could remaster the film in 3D.

Currently, 19 releases in 2010 will have 3D presentations; 14 3D films have been announced for 2011; and with this announcement 2012 will have at least 5 3D films.
