A few weeks ago we told you that Jonathan Demme (The Silence of Lambs) was working on a pilot for HBO with Deadwood creator David Milch.
Now the network has snagged a director that’s getting a lot of press these days. Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow’s next project won’t be for the big screen but for small screen audiences. She has come on board to direct The Miraculous Year, a pilot written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator). According to THR, the series will be an examination of a New York family as seen through the lens of a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer.
Filming is set to begin in either May or June.
Bigelow’s involvement sees her returning to a medium she hasn’t done since 2004 when she directed an episode of ABC’s Karen Sisco. The Miraculous Year marks the first time she’s directed a pilot for television.
Recently, she became the first woman to ever win a DGA Award.
