Ben Still-er Ridiculously Good Looking?

Casting News, News, Projects

Reports surfacing from Deadline Hollywood insist that Ben Stiller is pushing forward with Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux (who is also being tapped to the director’s chair this time around) to make a sequel to the 2001 cult-favourite Zoolander. The villain this time around will be played by Jonah Hill, who is reportedly in negotiations; and while hopes remain high for a return, no deals have been set with the films other star Owen Wilson.

The Pulse: As a big fan of the first movie, I’m all for a sequel. The question is always, can the sequel be as good? Well, this is where it can get tricky. With the budget reportedly staying under $50 million, in hopes of at least breaking even, the financial pressures should at least be off the team, as it’s likely at least that much can be made back one way or another. Also, with Stiller and Theroux working together and being as enthusiastic as they sound about it, that can only mean good things as far as some sort of story goes; though the zany humor of the original is what made it as funny as it was.

The only thing that can hinder this project, if I had to choose something at this point, would be Owen Wilson not signing on. Wilson and Stiller are a classic comedy act, and play well off of one another in all the movies they’ve starred in together. With Wilson having to drop out of Tropic Thunder (he was originally slated to play the part that eventually went to Matthew Mcconaughey) due to personal reasons, this would be a great opportunity for the two to start back into some comedy duo gold (seeing as this is more of a buddy flick with equal parts, over the smaller role in Stiller’s Night at the Museum series.)

As far as Hill being the bad guy; Farrell will be a tough act to follow, but Hill has shown he has the ability to do this kind of humor in the past, and that’s all one really needs to be sure of for a role such as this. Either way, Zoolander Too (of course, not the actual title, but a play on how incredibly stupid he is) will be one we’ll keep an eye on and see how it progresses. Here’s hoping it progresses in a really, really ridiculously good way!

Brendan Campbell was here when Inside Pulse Movies began, and he’ll be here when it finishes - in 2012, when a cataclysmic event wipes out the servers, as well as everyone else on the planet other than John Cusack and those close to him. Brendan’s the #1 supporter of Keanu Reeves, a huge fan of popcorn flicks and a firm believer that sheer entertainment can take a film a long way. He currently resides in Canada, where, for reasons stated above, he’s attempting to get closer to John Cusack.
