Hurt Locker producer banned from Oscars!

News

In an interesting turn of events leading up to this weekends Academy Awards, Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier has been banned from attending the ceremony for sending out emails soliciting voters to choose his film over the “$500 million” one, alluding very obviously to fellow nominee Avatar.

There has already been much debate between the two films. Not only are they both up for the same award, their directors, James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow are divorced.

While both films have been nominated for nine Oscars. Locker got an acting and writing nom, while Avatar mostly got technical noms.

The Pulse: So the guy was “violating Academy campaigning standards.” Is it really any different getting an email from versus the tons of other propaganda they get from the studios begging for their vote. Obviously there was a personal motivation behind this email what with Cameron and Bigelow’s history, but is what he did really bad enough to get him banned.

Sound Off: If Locker is fortunate enough to win best film of the year, who is going to receive the award? Do they just accept the award on his behalf and end the evening or say allow Bigelow to accept the award for him?

Personally, I think this is a little over kill. Do you think the Academy is justified in their actions?
