Tim Bradley, the top-rated light welterweight in the world, will return to the ring on June 26 to face Luis Carlos Abregu. And for the first time in his career, Bradley will be fighting on HBO. Showtime had televised his last five bouts.
The move to HBO is more significant news than Bradley’s opponent. While Luis Carlos Abregu is undefeated at 29-0 (23 KOs), he is not seen as a threat to Bradley’s title. Abregu is not ranked in the Ring Magazine top ten light welterweights.
HBO opens more doors for Bradley, 23-0 (11 KOs), to get bigger names in the light welterweight division. With Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz, Paulie Malignaggi, and Nate Campbell all fighting on HBO in May, Bradley has an easier path to those fighters.
