The New TTM Autograph Project: Spring Training

With Spring Training in full effect, it’s time to look at which players are signing autos through the mail.

Since I haven’t mailed many cards in the last year, I decided that I should send out quite a few this year.

So, I looked at players who had already had reported successes and players that signed last year. I also sent to a lot of Cardinal Minor Leaguers, since I have team sets from Springfield (Double A) for the last 2 years. I was able to confirm with a few via Facebook that they would sign. Finally, there were a couple of players I decided to take a chance on.

My list this spring:
Andrew Brown (3)- Said he’d sign via Facebook.
Jordan Brown (1)- I interviewed Jordan a year ago and he told me that he’d sign through the mail.
Johnny Cueto (1)- My buddy was sending to him and took a card for me.
Aaron Cunningham (2)- I had seen his name on a list of players that signed last spring.

Now, I sent most of these on 3/6, with a few sprinkled out the week before.

During Week 1 (3/07-3/13), I received 2: Tyler Norrick and Justin Masterson. I sent 1 card to each and received both back signed. Neither answered the questions I sent.

So far this week, I received Blake Hawksworth, Mike Leake, Clayton Mortensen, Daniel Schlereth, and Jeremy Sowers. All signed everything, except for Sowers; he signed 1 of the 3 cards I sent and he kept my 2 team set cards (I’ll have to track new ones down now). To top that off, the one card he did sign was my buddies. I sent Mortensen and Hawksworth 2 tickets from each of their MLB debuts. Mortensen signed and inscribed “MLB Debut” on both, as requested. Hawksworth just signed the 2 sent to him – no inscription.

My buddy received back Johnny Cueto, Jason Marquis, and Ty Wiggington; I gave him a card of each and received the first 2 back; Wiggington kept my card, but it’s no real loss. I gave him a few other too, but don’t have the names on hand.

Right now, I’m sitting at 25% return rate for players sent; I’m at 21% for cards sent. Pretty good for this early. I’m hoping to go to 75% or more on both. I’m also averaging a little over 9 days return time on the ones I’ve received, which is pretty good but will go up for sure.

I’ll be back next week with an update.
