It appears that light welterweight champion Tim Bradley will be defending against Marcos Maidana in June. Bradley was originally planning to face Juan Carlos Abregu in a welterweight bout. While Bradley was waiting for Abregu to sign the contract, Golden Boy approached Gary Shaw, Bradley’s promoter, about a fight with Marcos Maidana. Both sides were interested and a deal has been reached. The two will fight in Rancho Mirage, CA.
While Bradley was in talks to face Abregu, Marcos Maidana had been working for a fight with Devon Alexander. Alexander still has an open HBO date in August but now needs to find an opponent.
The Tim Bradley-Marcos Maidana fight matches two of the best 140-pound boxers against each other. Bradley, 25-0 (11 KOs), is recognized as the cream of the crop but Maidana could be the strongest puncher in the division having 27 knockouts in 29 fights, compiling a record of 28-1. HBO will have coverage of the fight scheduled for June 19.
