Cuban junior featherweight sensation Guillermo Rigondeaux has backed out of his fight against Reynaldo Lopez on this weekend’s “Fighting for Haiti” HBO card as a result of a bad back. Rigondeaux claims he suffered the injury in sparring, which has also led to another announcement.
Rigondeaux will no longer be trained by Freddie Roach. The 126-pounder says that Roach couldn’t give him the attention he would have preferred and had him regularly sparring junior middleweights, fighters naturally at least 25 pounds heavier than Guillermo, and that it had taken a toll on his back.
As a result, Rigondeaux currently has no trainer and no fight on the table.
