Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town – DVD Review

Film, Reviews

In the opening of Twilight, Bella Swan relocates from the sweltering and sunny Phoenix, AZ, to live with her father in gloomy rainy Forks, WA. She has no friends, except for Jacob Black, the boy she played with while visiting her father during the summers growing up, and she’s utterly miserable. In fact, in the first chapter, Bella tells us, “Forks was literally my personal hell on Earth.” Well luckily for the sleepy town of Forks, Washington, it has become literally heaven on Earth for thousands of Twilight fans.

Twilight In Forks: The Saga of the Real Town is the next best thing to planning your very own Twilight themed vacation. Did you know that the restaurant where Edward and Bella had their first date is called Bella Italia and it is open to the public? Did you know that Dr. Cullen has a parking spot at the Forks Community Hospital? Did you know that the Forks Chamber of Commerce has a book full of letters and invitations to the various Twilight characters? All of this and more can be seen if you visit the real town of Forks, WA on a Twilight Tour or here on this DVD.

But that’s not all. The Twilight Tour ends with a visit to Quileute territory for picture taking at La Push beach, where Jacob first told Bella of the legends of the Quileute people, and where Bella dove off of a cliff in New Moon, hoping for Edward to save her. Twilight In Forks: The Saga of the Real Town also focuses on the real people living there. The people running the shops and even the Quileute people are featured.

To fans disappointment, there are no werewolves or vampires roaming the halls of Forks High School, but the Quileute legend that the people are descended from wolves is actually true. The passion that the fans have for the books and the commitment to the fans expressed by the real people of Forks are enough to bring visitors from around the world to the once sleepy town.

This documentary looks like it should be an extra on the New Moon DVD or BD release, not its own separate movie. It’s presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and looks fairly good for a documentary style film featuring mostly interviews.

None.

This is a very lengthy but informative documentary on the little town of Forks, WA. The film is split up into segments – “Fans,” “Tour,” “La Push,” etc. – and each segment has it’s own annoying and overly dramatic intro. If they would have just smoothly transitioned from one topic to another, it would make the viewing experience a little better. There is no reason for Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town to be its own separate DVD. It should be an extra on a DVD or BD release, and it’s a little frustrating to expect fans to pay for another movie. Don’t they already spend enough on the Twilight franchise? C’mon Summit!

Jenny is proud to be the First Lady of Inside Pulse Movies. She gives female and mommy perspective, and has two kids who help with rating family movies. (If they don't like 'em, what's the point?) She prefers horror movies to chick flicks, and she can easily hang with the guys as long as there are several frou-frou girlie drinks to be had.
