Sucker To Rejuvenate Killer Mosquito-Man Genre

News, Projects

There are few things in life I love more then cheesy monster movies.

Pretty high atop that mountain of love for creature features is a spot reserved for that most succulent of cheese ball goodness — the giant insect movie.

The Fly. Eight Legged Freaks. Mansquito. All classics in their own right, these movies will soon welcome a new name into their pantheon — Sucker.

Famous Monsters of Filmland recently reported on the new horror film currently filming in Michigan. Director Michael Manasseri and Big Screen Entertainment are hard at work on Sucker, a movie about a man who becomes part mosquito when he is exposed to always reliably deadly of concoctions — radiation and insect DNA. Now, armed with the powers (and presumably at least some of the physical characteristics) of a mosquito, Sucker‘s hero takes revenge on his cheating wife and her bevy of suitors.

The Oakland Press was able to talk to Stephen Eckleberry, a producer on the movie, who said Sucker is a “fun, tongue-in-cheek film.”

Robert Kurtzman’s Creature Corps will handle the film’s special effects. Kurtzman was one of the founders of the legendary K.N.B. EFX Group.

You can rest assured I will be waiting patiently for the chance to check out Sucker as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will all have to make do with the full plot synopsis below:

Lovable loser Jim Crawley is having a pretty bad day. He gets fired from his job at the Nuclear Power Plant he’s worked at for 11 years, his car gets impounded, and he discovers his wife is having an affair with his ex co-worker. To make matters worse, Jim gets abducted by an evil scientist who is conducting tests of a controversial vaccine against a deadly virus that is spreading across the planet. It turns out that years of being exposed to nuclear radiation and a serum full of a rare insect DNA doesn’t mix very well with Jim … he mutates into a six foot, blood sucking, half human, half-insect that sets out for revenge. The film is a mix of comic book adventure/live action/3d animation and stylized photography.
