Dancing with the Stars Episode 10-6 review

Tonight is movie night in the ballroom and first up is Niecy and Louis. They dance the jive to “La Bamba” and it’s finally something fun from her. I am glad the emotional journey is over. At the end of the dance she awesomely plants a kiss on Len’s head and leaves a lipstick print in the middle of his forehead that remains there as he critiques her.  He says she had plenty of “bounce in her bazookas” but she needed bounce in her feet. He says it was well-done. Bruno says the jive needs to be precise and Louis confesses to going wrong.  Bruno thinks she lacks necessary sharpness for “this stage of the competition”.  Carrie Ann calls her the “shimmy queen” but she agrees with the other judges about the technique. They get 6,6,6 from the judges for a total of 18.

Chad and Cheryl are next with the Quickstep. In rehearsal, Chad thinks there’s something wrong between he and Cheryl and he asks her what’s bothering her. Nothing dude, this is the real Cheryl you are finally getting, haven’t you watched previous seasons?  She replies she’s under a lot of pressure and she wants them to continue to improve.   They dance to “Bare Necessities” from Disney’s The Jungle Book. She’s in a leopard print dress and the stage has cool green lights around it.  Bruno says it was too wild and Chad lost control. Carrie Ann says there were some improvement at times but they lacked body contact. Len thought his posture improved, overall he said well-done. They get a 6,6,6 from the judges for a total of 18.

Up next, are Erin and Maks dancing the Jive.  In rehearsal, they seem to be arguing a lot and Erin says they are like a scientific experiment where they mix on some days and explode on others.  They dance to “Miserlou” from Pulp Fiction where it’s a take-off of John Travolta’s dance scene with Uma Thurman.  I think Erin looks really good in the wig. Carrie Ann said she liked it and that they delivered the story.  She also says that Erin was a little ahead of Max though. Len thought the routine was tough and it got hectic but overall she did a good job.  Bruno said it was her best timing ever. She didn’t go wrong once.  They get a 7,7,8 from the judges for a total of 22.

Next is Jake and Chelsie with the Cha-Cha.  They are going to pay tribute to the Risky Business underwear scene.  Chelsie feels Jake is too analytical and she wants to get him to feel the dance.  They dance to “Old Time Rock and Roll” He’s on the dance floor in his underwear.  After the music starts, he puts on his pants which I thought was a little awkward dance-wise but had to be done.  Len says he comes out with a 100 percent, and he did mess up but it was “great fun”.  Bruno throws money toward Jake. He says his energy is good and all the elements were in place but he went wrong. Carrie Ann loved the dance. They get a 8,7,8 from the judges for a total of 23.

Pamela and Damian are next dancing the Quickstep to “9 to 5″. She’s Dolly Parton’s character and I thought it was a little boring. Bruno says she’s great at remaining in character. Bruno clearly is in love with her. Carrie Ann said the “characterizations are amazing” but the hold was too loose. Len hated the props but did like the bit of dancing she did to. They get a 7,6,8 from the judges for a total of 21.

Next up is Kate and Tony dancing the Foxtrot to the “Don’t You Forget About Me”song  from The Breakfast Club.  God I feel sorry for Tony. He says Kate has no motivation and it exhausts him.  There’s a blackboard in the back that says “Detention”.  Carrie Ann said she saw some grace that is developing but there’s not enough form in her dance like the teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoon who speaks all muddled. That teacher’s voice bothered me so much as a child.  Len says she more strolled around the dance floor than danced. Bruno feels she’s regressed back to the beginning. He’s intense about it. She gets a 5,5,5 from the judges for a total of 15.

Nicole and Derek are next with the Tango. Their dance is based on Pretty Woman.  They go into a L.A. boutique like in the movie and Nicole tries on a bunch of clothes. After the saleslady rings up the clothes and they hear the total, they run out of the store.  The song they dance to is “Pretty Woman” and Derek’s choreography is so cool.  Len says it’s her best dance and the best dance of the season. Bruno stands up and starts yelling a bunch of things in approval and turns to Len and is in his face as if preaching it at him and it’s very funny.  Bruno loves the performance. Carrie Ann loves it and applauded it as art. They get a 10,9,10 from the judges for a total of 29. I guess that score should stop Nicole’s tears.

Evan and Anna are up next with the Rumba.  Evan has a skate performance with the” Stars on Ice” tour to perform in. He remarks that the hip movement in skating and in the Rumba are very different.  They dance to “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” from Armageddon. There’s something very beautiful about his long, skinny body.  Bruno says he’s like a ballet dancer which is exactly what I was thinking.  Carrie Ann says there was a “tender sophistication” to it and the movements generated emotion.  Len said it had artistry, musicality and good hip action. They get a 9,9,9 from the judges for a total of 27.  The final will probably come down to Evan and Nicole and I think it will be pretty good. I hate when the finals aren’t evenly matched in terms of dancing ability.
