The battle Edwin Valero had with his inner demons has taken the lives of two people, including Valero himself as he was found dead in a Venezuelan jail cell in which he was being held for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Viera.

Valero was an undefeated two-division champion with 27 knockouts in 27 fights. His ferocity inside the ring was matched on the outside as well. Here is a time line of Valero’s last month:

March 25, 2010: Valero’s wife was admitted to a hospital with cracked ribs and a punctured lung. Valero was disruptive with hospital staff. Jennifer claimed Edwin was free from any wrong-doing and that the injuries were caused by a fall down the stairs.

March 28, 2010: Edwin Valero is admitted into a rehab facility in Venezuela for drug and anger issues.

April 18, 2010: Jennifer Viera is found dead in a Venezuelan hotel with three stab wounds. Valero, reportedly, told hotel staff that he murdered his wife.

April 19, 2010: Edwin Valero hanged himself in his jail cell with his own clothes. He showed minor signs of life when discovered but was unable to be saved.

Mary Finol, the mother of Jennifer Viera, told reporters that her daughter was concerned with Edwin’s cocaine addiction. According to Finol, Viera said her husband wasn’t sleeping or eating, used drugs every day, and was becoming increasingly violent.
