Pirates forget to show up
The Pirates showed everyone that they are not as good as their record shows by losing to the Brewers 20-0. Every position player for the Brewers got a hit except Jody Gerut. The Pirates pitching had 4 pitchers give up earned runs; 18 of the 20 scored were earned. Starter Daniel McCutchen and reliever Joel Hanrahan both gave up 6; McCutchen spread his out over 3.2 innings while Hanrahan did it over 1 inning.

Yank’s pull feat
The Yankees pulled off the rare 5-4-3 triple play against the Athletics Thursday. Catcher Kurt Suzukis grounded to Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez stepped on third and fired to Robinson Cano, who threw to Nick Johnson at first.

The triple play overshadowed a shouting match between Rodriguez and Athletics starter Dallas Braden. Rodriguez cut across the pitchers mound when returning to first base from third on a foul ball by Cano. Braden was upset that Rodriguez broke an “unwritten rule” by doing so. “The long and short of it is it’s pretty much baseball etiquette. He should probably take a note from his captain over there,” Braden said, referring to Yankees leader Derek Jeter, “because you don’t run across the pitcher’s mound in between an inning or during the game. I was just dumbfounded that he would let that slip his mind.” Braden received no apology: “The guy was tasting himself too long to apologize,” he said. “No, he didn’t apologize. And it’s a shame. I have a lot of respect for that guy, everything he’s done in the game. It’s just disappointing when you see the other side of things.”

A-Rod’s comment: “He just told me to get off his mound,” Rodriguez said. “I was a little surprised. I’ve never quite heard that, especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career. I’ve never even heard of that in my career and I still don’t know. I thought it was pretty funny, actually.”
