The Office – Episode 6-22 Review

Top Story

“If it wasn’t for secretaries, I wouldn’t have a step-mom.”

On this week’s “Secretary’s Day”, Andy tries to make Erin’s Secretary’s Day a memorable one. While out to lunch with Erin, Michael accidentally informs her of Andy and Angela’s past relationship. Oscar circulates a video he made which compares Kevin’s voice to Cookie Monster’s.

“One on one lunch with Erin?…She’s kind of a rube.”

Andy is thrilled that it is Secretary’s Day, having informed the rest of the office weeks before to ensure that she gets the appreciation she deserves. Michael apprehensively agrees to take Erin to her favorite restaurant for lunch. During the awkward lunch conversation that ensues, Michael accidentally slips that Andy was once engaged to Angela. Erin panics in the middle of the restaurant, covering her face with her hair and groaning (“In the foster home, my hair was my room”).

Kevin is bitter about a video making the rounds which has his voice dubbed over Cookie Monster’s. When he approaches Gabe about how hurt he is, Gabe finds it to be an opportunity to assert himself as an authority figure and threatens the office if the video does not stop being circulated. Naturally, everyone continues to ignore him and mock Kevin anyway.

At the Secretary’s Day party, Andy publicly thanks Angela for outdoing herself with the festivities which pushes her over the edge. Erin tosses her cake in Andy’s face, demanding to know why she wasn’t told and storms out.

After the party, Gabe overhears Pam mocking Kevin’s voice and decides to suspend her without pay. Jim intervenes, resulting in his own suspension. Dwight starts applauding Gabe and is suspended himself. This pleases Kevin (“C is for suspension”).Unfortunately, Gabe finds out he actually has no authority to do so. Toby finds out the same information for Pam and lets her know that it is illegal for Gabe to dock her pay. Gabe insists that if they only apologize, he will “revoke” their suspension. Pam and Jim knowingly insist on taking their suspension and leave for the day. Gabe attempts to apologize to everyone for asserting authority that he does not have, and the office begins mocking him instead of Kevin.

Michael talks to Erin outside about how sorry he is for spilling Andy’s business but cheers her up by mocking Angela.

The episode ends with Kevin attempted to retaliate against Oscar’s Cookie Monster video with a video of Oscar’s voice dubbed over The Count’s (because Oscar is an accountant). It falls flat.
