Randy Couture versus James Toney is being finalized, and an announcement could make it an official fight for UFC 118 within the next few days or weeks.

Couture spoke with MMAWeekly Radio on Monday and confirmed the news.

“It looks like we’re narrowing it down, hopefully get a chance to sign for the James Toney fight here pretty quickly, and they’re looking to put that fight on at UFC 118 in Boston in August, and I’m excited about that,” said Couture.

Couture last fought in February when he submitted fellow UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman with a rear naked choke. The MMA legend will be 47 at the time of the impending fight with Toney.

James “Lights Out” Toney will make his MMA debut against Couture after signing a multi-fight deal with the UFC in March. Toney, who will be 42 at the time of his debut, has 83 career professional boxing matches with a record of 72-6, with three draws and two no contests.

Toney has been helped in his transition to mixed martial arts by former Quinton “Rampage” Jackson trainer, Juanito Ibarra. Ibarra is also a former trainer for boxing great, Oscar de la Hoya.

UFC 118 will be the company’s debut show in Boston, and it is turning out to be quite a first impression for the organization. In addition to Couture and Toney, a re-match between UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn will take place, as well as a lightweight number one contender bout between Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard.
