Jorge Rivera Versus Alessio Sakara Expected For UFC 118 In Boston

News

Boston native Jorge Rivera has made no secret of his inclusion to the upcoming show in Boston for UFC 118 in August. Apparently the right people heard him, and he’s now in a position to fight in front of his home crowd, and he’ll face Alessio Sakara.

According to MMAJunkie.com, no official announcement is set to be made, but agreements between the fighters should be finalized shortly.

Rivera (18-7) has been fighting on-and-off for the UFC all the way back to UFC 44 in 2003. Rivera has had 12 fights for the company and had a 4-5 record after his first nine fights. He has won his last three fights, including two straight TKO wins over Rob Kimmons and most recently Nate Quarry in March. After the fight with Quarry, UFC commentator Joe Rogan remarked that it was the best performance of Rivera’s career.

Sakara (15-7) was originally set to meet Nate Marquardt at UFC 116 in July. He pulled out of the fight with Marquardt recently after the death of his father to spend more time with his family in Italy.

Like Rivera, Sakara has also won his last three fights, including a split decision win over Thales Leites and a knockout win over James Irvin in March. Rivera has seen a resurgence in his career since he began training with American Top Team. He is 4-1 with his only loss coming to Chris Leben in March 2008.
