Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami: Season One – DVD Review

DVD Reviews, Reviews

Keeping Up with the Kardashians is one of the highest rated shows on the E! network. A lot of people like to watch the Kardashian family, including Bruce Jenner, Kris Jenner, Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, and , do crazy “scripted reality TV” things. You know all of the staged arguments, interactions, and activities that you can handle. Fans of shows like that enjoy watching young, rich, beautiful people live the lives they likely will never live. Either that or they enjoy laughing at people like that, who think they are the greatest thing ever. Well what happens when you have high-rated show, especially these days? It’s time for a spin-off! Kardashian fans your newest guilty pleasure might be Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami.

The premise of Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami is pretty self-explanatory, but here it is anyways. This series follows the two less famous Kardashian sisters, Khloé and Kourtney, as they move to Miami to open the second Dash clothing store. We watch as they try to make Dash in Miami as successful as their first store in California. We also see Khloé try create a successful radio show in Miami called Khloé After Dark. Of course, there is also plenty of emphasis on drama with boys the girls are dating or hanging out with.

If you have watched any episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, you will find that this show is just like it. There are plenty of petty arguments between the sisters that are mostly staged for the cameras, drunken antics and hook-ups, foul language, and sometimes the occasional insight into the retail clothing boutique and radio worlds. The latter aspects of this series is really the only thing different between Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, if you don’t count the new location. The problem is this show doesn’t know what story it wants to tell. They shift the focus too much from the clothing store to Khloé’s radio show from episode to episode. This really pounds home the point that they just really wanted an excuse to show Kourtney and Khloé act crazy in a new city with this show.

Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami doesn’t bring anything new to the world of reality television. In fact, it’s more than content to just sit back and do the same old thing. You get the feeling while watching this series that the only reason this show exists is to please the enormous egos of Kourtney and Khloé. Despite what they might like to think and make everyone believe, without Kim and her X-rated “acting” abilities in the dark, they wouldn’t have this show. So obviously if you can’t stand watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians, you won’t enjoy watching Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami either. Although, the focus of this series is mainly only on two Kardashian family members instead of the whole family, so that might be a plus for some viewers. Then again, they really don’t do anything we haven’t see before, at least nothing interesting that gets any legit time or focus. All of that being said, though, if you DO enjoy living vicariosly through the Kardashian sisters and like watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami is a series you won’t want to miss!

The audio included is available in English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound. The dialogue and music come out loud and clear. There are no major problems here either.

Deleted Scenes – There is 9 minutes worth of scenes that didn’t make the final cut of this season. Nothing too interesting here either.

“Khloé After Dark” Interviews – This is 8 minutes worth of interviews from Khloe’s radio show. A little more interesting than the regular deleted scenes, but nothing special.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians Wedding Special Bonus Episode – This is the complete two-hour special that chronicled the wedding of
Khloe Kardashian to NBA Los Angeles Laker star, Lamar Odom. They are still married, which is surprising since many people thought this was a publicity stunt. The true test will be when after the Kardashians are tired of being on TV. Will Khloe and Lamar be married then? But again, if you are fan of this show or the original Keeping Up with the Kardashians, you will certainly enjoy this wedding special.

“Wedding Special” Deleted Scenes – There is 6 minutes worth of scenes that didn’t make the final cut the wedding special. Again, there is nothing too interesting that we are missing here either.

If you enjoy watching the Kardashian sisters and their antics, the first season of Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami is a “must-watch” for you. This DVD set is probably a “must-own” for those hardcore fans, since the complete wedding special is included here as well. Those that can’t stand the Kardashians will want to stay FAR away from this show and this DVD set. If you enjoy reality television that you don’t have to think about too hard, this might be a show to check out. However, it’s not the best of this type of television, so it’s only recommended after you have watched other similar show and looking for something new.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
