Focus Features has debuted a teaser trailer for Anton Corbijn’s The American starring George Clooney. The Academy Award winner plays a hitman on his last assignment in Italy. Unfortunately for him, he mixes business with pleasure, as he falls in love. Now the hitman becomes the hunted. On Martin Ruhe’s cinematography alone, I can’t wait to see this in theaters. I never saw Anton Corbijn’s Control, but this looks promising. Take a look.
The American is directed by Dutch visual artist and filmmaker Anton Corbijn. Based on Martin Booth’s novel A Very Private Gentleman, the film was shot independently by Corbijn in Italy and Sweden. Focus Features is distributing the film in the U.S. The American arrives in theaters on September 1st.
