Clay Guida Vs. Rafael dos Anjos Slated For UFC 117

News

Clay Guida and Rafael dos Anjos have agreed to fight one another at UFC 117 in Oakland this August. Although no contracts have been signed at this point, the fighters are in possession of the contracts, and their signatures are expected in the coming days.

It’s believed that the bout will air on the televised portion of the show.

Guida (26-11) beat Shannon Gugerty in March after back-to-back losses to Diego Sanchez and Kenny Florian. Although Guida is only 8-8 in his last 16 fights,  he has become one of the more popular fighters in the UFC’s lightweight division thanks to a seemingly endless motor inside the Octagon. He has won three Fight of the Night honors since coming to the UFC, and he won Submission of the Night honors against Gugerty.

Dos Anjos (14-4) has had mixed success since joining the UFC in Nov. 2008. He lost his first two fights against Jeremy Stephens and Tyson Griffin. However, dos Anjos is currently on a three-fight winning streak with victories over Rob Emerson, Kyle Bradley, and most recently Terry Etim at UFC 112 last month. Dos Anjos, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, won Submission of the Night against Etim forcing him to tap out to an armbar.

UFC 117 will be main evented by UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his belt against top contender Chael Sonnen.
