Dwayne Johnson Going from Faster to Furious

Casting News, News

You may have caught Pulse Glazer’s brief mention of Dwayne Johnson joining the cast of the next entry in the Fast and Furious franchise at our sister site, Pulse Wrestling. But allow us to add to the story.

In Universal’s The Rundown, Arnold Schwarzenegger told Dwayne Johnson to “have fun.” It was a tip-of-the-hat gesture acknowledging Johnson as the new action star to be reckoned with. Best known as his wrestling persona “The Rock,” Johnson made the transition to feature films after a supporting role in The Mummy Returns. It was assumed that he was going to be the next big action icon. But Vin Diesel also got that same buzz after The Fast and the Furious and xXx. But then he went to do The Pacifier. (Johnson also followed a similar career path.) Now, if Deadline Hollywood is correct, we may get to see these two would-be action icons facing off. The deal is not complete, but Johnson is eyeing a starring role in Fast Five, the next installment of The Fast and the Furious.

The Pulse: Well, this has piqued my interest. The last one I wasn’t crazy about. And I’m not happy that the series has become nothing more than a game of cops and robbers with Hot Wheels. (The real kind, not the toys.) Plus, by the time this movie goes into production, Johnson will be well prepared with Faster coming to theaters this fall. He plays an ex-con – more appropriately, a getaway driver. But his character in Fast Five will be the one pursuing Diesel and co-star Paul Walker.

He's told that the position is his until he's dead or if "The Boss" can find somebody better. I expect the best and I give the best. Here's the beer. Here's the entertainment. Now have fun. That's an order!
