Colin Farrell Sinks Teeth into Fright Night Remake

Casting News, News

If Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt can be a vampire, why not Colin Farrell? The actor will star in Fright Night, a remake of the cult hit from 1985. He’ll play a vampire named Jerry, who on the surface appears like a cool guy, but who is really a vampire who preys on the neighborhood. Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride) played the role originally.

Another casting announcement made is Toni Collette playing a neighborhood mom who falls under his spell.

They join Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett, Star Trek) in the remake. Yelchin plays a teen who is convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, but no one will believe him.

Collette is Yelchin’s mom, who at first disapproves of Jerry but soon changes her tune – totally dismissing her son when he tries telling her Jerry’s a vampire.

Lars and the Real Girl‘s Craig Gillespie is directing.

The movie is will be distributed through Disney.

Sound off: To be honest, it seems like it’s been an eternity when I saw Fright Night. I’m talking the days of HBO when its biggest hit at the time was Tales from the Crypt. Recharging his batteries on the independent scene with In Bruges and Crazy Heart, it looks as if Colin Farrell likes the potential of this remake. But it begs the question: Who should be cast in the Roddy McDowell role?
