Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky are Eyeing The Tiger

Casting News, News

Could the third time finally be the charm for Darren Aronofsky and Brad Pitt making a film together? It was Pitt who left The Foundation before filming could begin. (He was replaced by Hugh Jackman.) The second time, both Pitt and Aronofsky left The Fighter, only to have Christian Bale and David O. Russell take over. (I can only imagine what the shouting matches were like.)

Now Deadline and THR have stories about Focus Features and the studio’s collaboration with Random House Films, a film wing of the publishing giant. One of those books is The Tiger, an upcoming non-fiction book by John Vaillant. Both Aronofsky and Pitt have been developing the project on the QT for almost a year now.

Adapting the non-fiction work is Guillermo Arriaga, who wrote Babel (which features Brad Pitt), 21 Grams, Amores Perros, and The Burning Plain. The story follows a conservationist game warden who must protect a small Siberian town when a tiger begins attacking its inhabitants after their town’s development infringes on its habitat.

Considering the on-again off-again nature of Pitt and Aronofsky, there’s no telling when this project will happen. Both have other projects pending. For Aronofsky there’s the adaptation of the 2008 Ron Rash novel Serena with Mrs. Brad Pitt set to star and the Jackie Kennedy picture with his fiance, Rachel Weisz, headlining,

On the horizon for Brad Pitt is the long-gestating adaptation of Moneyball, which will be directed by Bennett Miller (Capote), and Important Artifacts, Greg Mottola’s (Adventureland) follow-up after Paul.

Sound off: These fingers are crossed that the Pitt/Aronofsky pairing comes to fruition this time. Though it’s funny that Aronofsky will probably work with Pitt’s wife, Angelina, before getting the opportunity to work with him. As for the project, The Tiger sounds like the Siberian version of The Ghost and the Darkness. But that’s not a bad thing. So do you think we’ll ever see Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky work together on a project?
