The Real Housewives of New York City – Episode 3-2

Ramona Singer, you were made for television. There’s a bit early on in the episode where Ramona says that Bethenny talks too fast. Then she proceeds to prattle on about her renewed mellow self as Bethenny’s conversation with Mario continues in the background. Pot, meet kettle.

I liked seeing Ramona and Bethenny (and their respective beaus) having a good time. We left last week’s episode with the impression that everyone hated Bethenny, and it was nice to see them talk and laugh about the absurd dynamics of their group. I liked that Bethenny said Mario’s “countless” comment wasn’t too nice. She’ll call out anyone, even her friends.

Mario does end up calling LuAnn to extend a hand and have LuAnn attend their lunch. This isn’t enough for her (why not?) and she decides not to attend. Jill also decides not to go as she is in the Hamptons as LuAnn’s guest. All of this makes sense to me, but it results in a phone call where Ramona talks about LuAnn’s marriage to Jill while LuAnn listens in. I wonder how much of those rumors are true, since both Bethenny and Ramona have separately brought them up. If it’s true, I certainly get why everyone hates LuAnn’s pretension.

Ramona goes full steam ahead with her lunch, and drama is a’brewing. After a brief discussion of Bethenny not using Alex’s logo, it’s time to focus on the Bethenny-Jill situation. There’s a lot of talk about it, especially from a woman who we’ve never seen before. I get the feeling Bethenny didn’t know her relationship with Jill had deteriorated so much. It must be strange to hear about your own friendships from people you don’t know (“Are you the caterer?”)

At LuAnn’s lunch, Kelly reasserts how socially awkward and awful at communicating she is. Her telling the rest about her Playboy cover was like pulling teeth. “I have to talk to you as soon as possible, it’s kind of a media thing, you know that I respect you so much and I’m so honest and so authentic, and I just want to be straight with you guys and don’t freak out but I will be in Playboy.” Um, whatever, Kelly.

The best part of LuAnn’s lunch happened when Alex was leaving Ramona’s and mentioned she was stopping at LuAnn’s home on her way out of the Hamptons. Ramona blew some sort of gasket. I’ve never seen a woman take her lunch guests so seriously. Poor Alex was just trying to be honest about her friendships and she was put in a really awkward situation.

Random Thoughts:

  • Bethenny about LuAnn: “She lost her husband and grew a penis.” I was almost rolling on the floor, that line was so good.
  • Victoria fell off the balcony while she was trying to sneak out of the house? I thought all the naughty kids of the Real Housewives franchise were in the OC.
  • Ally has the patience of a god for being able to drive well while her mother was in the backseat.
  • It was nice to see LuAnn encourage Jill to make up with Bethenny.
  • The scene with Bethenny and Jason at a bar was too cute. Does he have a brother?
