Shannon has coached the Canes to a record of 21-17 in his three years on campus, winning more games than the previous year every year.
Shannon said he was asked about a new contract many times on the recruiting trail, he assured all current and future recruits that he plans on being in Miami for a long time.
Shannon has turned around the program in more ways than one, there’s been few significant off-field disciplinary issues since Shannon took over, and the football program ranks among the national leaders in the Academic Progress Rates scores charted by the NCAA recently scoring in the top 10%.
The Canes have gotten better on the field too, with a deep and talented team returning this year. Jacory Harris returns at QB, he was a Heisman candidate the first few weeks of last season and he has good WRs to throw to once again with Travis Benjamin and Leonard Hankerson. The defense is anchored by Allen Bailey and Sean Spence, a pair of potential early round draft picks in next years NFL draft.
