Disc News: WWE's Best of Raw Seasons 1 & 2 Coming this Summer

Disc Announcements, News

There was speculation earlier this month that World Wrestling Entertainment was planning to release a three-disc set that would contain every episode of Monday Night Raw from its inaugural 1993 season. I took this with a grain of salt, because no way 47 episodes for programs running an average of forty-four minutes in length were going to fit on three discs.

No, it looks like it’s going to be another Raw-themed compilation. It’ll be the sixth compilation for a program that’s been a staple of Monday nights since 1993. (The others include the out-of-print WWF release Best of Raw Vol. 1 and 2, The Monday Night War, the Tenth Anniversary, the Best of Raw 15th Anniversary, and the Best of Raw 2009.)

Raw began as a one-hour program that originated weekly from New York’s Grand Ballroom. Sometimes live, other times live-to-tape, the program had many memorable moments its first year. Who can forget the Loser-Leaves-Town match between Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect, or Marty Janetty getting his revenge on former Rocker Shawn Michaels in an Intercontinental Championship match that is considered one of the best matches in the history of Monday Night Raw.

Building from its 15th Anniversary set, hopefully World Wrestling Entertainment corrects a wrong and includes the full matches, and not trim them for the DVD release.

The set is billed as The Best of Raw Seasons 1 & 2. The three disc release (SRP: $34.99) arrives in stores on August 10, 2010, and it will include all the best matches and segments from the program’s first two years on the USA Network.
