NHL News: Washington Capitals Sign Center Nicklas Backstrom To 10-Year Extension

News

The deal keeps Backstrom from becoming a Restricted Free Agent after the season.

Backstrom set career highs in goals and points this season, scoring 33 times and collecting 101 points, good for 4th in the league.

The 10-year-deal is worth $67 million and will keep two of the best young players in the game in Caps uniforms for atleast the next decade, as Alexander Ovechkin still has 11 years left on his monster contract.

Backstrom’s contract will pay him $6 million next year and rise yearly to $8 million in the last year of the contract.
