The Real Housewives of New York City – Episode 3-5

This is how a fight plays out in reality TV land: The New York Daily News. Bethenny’s day begins with an article about her relationship (or lack thereof) with Jill Zahhhrin. She’s understandable emotional, and believes it’s been planted by her once and former friend. It was a very pro-Jill/LuAnn article, but if they did really plant it, it was a really low blow.

She meets with Alex , Kelly, and Ramona to help with Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, and begins by apologizing for everyone getting dragged into the Daily News article. Alex immediately asks her if she planted it and Ramona calls her a press monger. I was a bit surprised to see them assume it of Bethenny so quickly, but I guess she’s into the media and the show hasn’t given us that side of her yet.

While Bethenny insists that she had no part in it, Kelly feels it’s time to jump in. Kelly, it’s never time to jump in. Just when I was maybe starting to consider possibly warming to her, Kelly brought up the events of season two as a comparison. It amazes me that Kelly is so delusional. She started in with Bethenny. She’s now starting in with her again, even after clearing the air. Ugh. Alex futilely tries to interrupt the growing argument, and Ramona straight up bellows and cuts everyone off. You can always count on her.

When they leave to try on dresses, Kelly takes the “opportunity to make it clear to Bethenny that I don’t care.” Yeah, you don’t care. That’s why you keep talking about it. Bethenny says that if something is in the past, Kelly needs to let it go, and since that’s a logical statement, it goes right over Kelly’s head. Instead, Kelly insists that “It’s done!” over and over again until Bethenny gives up. Based on her interviews, it’s obvious that Kelly walked away thinking she was the mature one and level-headed one. Um, right…

Back on planet Earth, Ramona meets with a friend who looks exactly like Samantha’s lesbian girlfriend from Sex and the City. They have a very deep conversation about Ramona’s childhood in an abusive home. Ramona can be mean, and sometimes comes across as if she’s taking the same medication as Kelly, but this is a very sad segment. I’m glad she’s getting closure, good for her.

And now, we have the phone call. This may be a “reality” show, but Bethenny crying, walking all alone on a sidewalk? The setting’s a bit convenient. That being said, some of this stuff just cannot be faked. These people aren’t actors, and their drama is too good to be scripted. Bethenny calls Jill to talk it out before Jill tells everyone in the state of New York they’re fighting. And she is cruelly rebuffed. I wasn’t sure about the fight before, but now I am definitely Team Bethenny. She tried to build a bridge and Jill angrily insisted there was nothing to talk about, all while LuAnn gleefully listened. Poor B, I was very sad for her in that moment.

Jill, Jill, Jill. This isn’t a nice season for you, is it?

Random Thoughts:

  • Kelly flirting during her Playboy interview is so awkward. Just like the rest of her social interactions.
  • Jill’s email was a joke. A creepy, needy, pathetic joke.
  • I want Bethenny’s red coat.
